The original Carousel was built in 1962 by political operative Bobby Baker as a hideaway for Washington D.C. power brokers. The original Carousel or “Bobby Baker Building” as it is often referred to is four stories high contains 75 oceanfront hotel rooms.
In 1974, the Atrium area and 22 story Tower Building were connected to the original hotel building making the Carousel the only multi-use facility in Ocean City. Floor 1 of the Tower Building houses offices, the front desk and the lobby area as well as meeting rooms. Floors 2-5 house 162 hotel rooms and suites. Floors 6-22 have 190 two and three bedroom condominiums that are each privately owned.
The Atrium hosts the world famous Indoor Ice Skating Rink as well as various food and beverage outlets including a full service restaurant and lounge, an indoor pool, sauna and exercise room. The outdoor patio area which is in front of the original Carousel building has a patio bar and grille, an outdoor pool, a pirate ship for the kids and abundant seating on the beautifully manicured grassy area.
